Sancho Panza

Christy Wynne wrote:
Hi Sean, Your quote of the day 11th Feb from Sancho Panza brought me back half a century to when I first read the piece, wrote it down and learned it off. It’s not as lofty or as long as Sam McGee or Dan McGrew but I always felt there was something earthy, warm and fulfilling about it.
• “All I know is that while I’m asleep, I’m never afraid, and I have no hopes, no struggles, no glories — and bless the man who invented sleep, a cloak over all human thought, food that drives away hunger, water that banishes thirst, fire that heats up cold, chill that moderates passion, and, finally, universal currency with which all things can be bought, weight and balance that brings the shepherd and the king, the fool and the wise, to the same level. There’s only one bad thing about sleep, as far as I’ve ever heard, and that is that it resembles death, since there’s very little difference between a sleeping man and a corpse”

"Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time. Exercise caution in your business affairs; for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals; and everywhere life is full of heroism."

New law

A new law will require restaurants, takeaways and all food service outlets to post the information alongside the price for all items offered on their menus. The Restaurant Association of Ireland claims the move would cost businesses, and is blaming the ‘nanny state’.
1. will every menu in the country have to be reprinted?
2. who is qualified to measure the calories?
3. will there be new menu inspectors?
4. what numbskull came up with this idea?
Sure, obesity is a problem, but so is the continued availability of cigarettes, booze and contaminated water!

Public Consultation

Public Consultation
Denise McDonnell, Patsy Daly, Anthony Dockery, Pat Murtagh, Una Doris, Linda Doherty

People in County Roscommon are being urged to partake in public consultations. Roscommon County Council is seeking the public’s views on the Local Economic and Community Plan, the LEADER plan, and the Tourism Strategy. The Boyle session took place in King House Boyle on Wednesday the 4th February at 7pm.
• Representatives of Roscommon Co Council and Leader were present and open to suggestions put forward by an all-too-small number of people.
• Coping with apathy is one of the requirements for those organising meetings like the one last night. Daily we hear comments like "Why don't they ...", yet when an opportunity arises to have a say in the future plans of the Co Co or other administrative bodies, only a small number of people turn up. (rant over :-)
