Boyle Musical Society - Christmas Carols

PC210005

There was rapt, sustained applause and a standing ovation for last night's Boyle Musical Society's performance of Christmas Carols before, during and after 7.15pm Mass. Once more we were treated to and enjoyed the musical talents of this exceptionally gifted, dedicated group ... and once more there was justification in the statement that as far as talent goes, Boyle boxes 'way above its weight'. A very special 'well done' to the group's Musical Director Ann Kielty. Sterling performances all round - a great start for a joyful Christmas.

Feelystone / Bernadine Casserly / Tony Conboy / Midwinter / Message of Christmas

Feelystone Ltd

PC200003

I took a set of photos in the newly arranged Feelystone Ltd Showroom to show you some of the kitchens with beautiful Feelystone worktops made in Boyle by the company.
• Feelystone have been approved as a GOLD STAR FABRICATOR for Spanish Company COSENTINO, and are one of only five in Ireland. Finbarr Feely says: "This is down to the hard work and skill of all our staff from our Cad Design, sales and ordering process right though to the manufacture and installation of the Silestone COSENTINO products".

Bernadine Casserly in Concert

PC200076

Bernie sang, chatted and charmed a capacity audience in King House last night. This was a follow up to her full-house October concert. Bernie delighted with popular songs from country 'When You Say Nothing At All' and 'The Tennessee Waltz" forward to some classics like 'Danny Boy', 'Sonny', 'Wherever You Will Go' and concluded with a Christmas selection 'Pie Jesu', 'Silent Night' and more.
• Concert dynamics had Bernie perform with various musical backings provided by the excellent Thomas Cryan on piano, Enda on Guitar and brother Noel on bass.
• Tommy Egan presented the King house venue superbly as always, and the tireless Damien (Boyle Musical Society) operated the lighting beautifully.

For Your Information

Tony Conboy wrote: "I rang Barna Waste and was then told that since their next 'waste' day will fall on Christmas Day, collection will take place this Saturday the 21st. I imagine people might want a clear out since the next waste would then be January 8th. Call Barna at 1890 445 445 to confirm that what I say is right!
• A very Happy Christmas to you and all ... The GAA Quiz is on Friday the 27th and the Dodd's Traditional Music session on the evening of Sunday the 29th"

For you today, Saturday 21st

• Kelly's Londis: Warehouse Sale daily until Christmas Eve
• Boyle Origin Farmers Market 10-2pm King House grounds
• Daly's Drinks: Saturday "Strong Brew" 4-piece

• Boyle Musical Society will perform a selection of Christmas Carols on this Midwinters Saturday December 21st in St. Joseph's Church, starting at 7.15pm

Midwinter
"The shortest day", "winter solstice" and "midwinter" are the colloquial terms used to describe the 24 hours around an annual astronomical event which occurs around the 22nd December. The shortest day marks the point when the days start to get longer and the nights shorter, and has profound cultural meaning around the world and throughout history. The cultural significance varies, but generally refers to a time of rebirth.

The Message of Christmas

Larger version of this photo [here...] More photos [here...]

Last night's Ecumenical Service in St.Joseph's Church was a joyous entry to the final days before Christmas. Three pastors, and three lay people delivered the Message of Christmas between seasonal carols sung by three choirs.  I brought the message home with me:

Jesus left all of us a message, to love, to care.
His words were ever simple, plain and so very clear:
"Be kind to one another throughout the coming year".

A Mock Commercial for Beans Is Better Than Almost Any Real Commercial for Anything. Visual effects studio Cinesite produced this crazy-good mock commercial as a way to show off its creature animation skills. Sunday 15th December: Santa, accompanied by two of his elves and a couple of 'strangely dressed dudes' arrived at the Visitor Centre through a haze of crackers and smoke screen to a large and enthusiastic group of parents and youngsters. From the grotto in the Moylurg Room Santa was introduced and chatted each of his young visitors, while staff at the Centre dispensed delicious hot choc and good cheer. A face-painter did what face-painters do for delighted kiddies. Yes, Mrs. Claus was there too and kept the show moving nicely.
• A great group of friends who are a section of Boyle Musical Society gave an 'impromptu' selection of favourite carols while raising funds for Cancer Research.
• Full marks to the Visitor Centre staff who regularly transform the centre into seasonal wonderlands, and to the carol singers who took time aside to entertain ... what a great and talented crew all are!

Bananas ... did you know?

A banana gives an instant, sustained and substantial boost of energy.
• Research has proven that just two bananas provide enough energy for a strenuous 90-minute workout.
• No wonder the banana is the number one fruit with the world’s leading athletes. But energy is not the only way a banana can help us keep fit. It can also help overcome or prevent a substantial number of illnesses and conditions, making it a must to add to our daily diet.

Think, Shop, Buy Local - whenever possible

Think, Shop, Buy Local - whenever possible

• Shopping local creates jobs. Traders in our area create local employment.
• Local businesses are proportionally more generous in their support of local charities, schools, and community events. So supporting local shops means a financial contribution to our community.
• Local traders and providers have great products at affordable prices. Some people get out of the habit of "local" and can be surprised by the range of products/services available.
• Shopping locally saves you time and money. You travel less, saving on time and fuel.
• Local businesses value, respect and appreciate your patronage.
• We will all shop away occasionally, and that is fine, but we should Think Local First.

Daniel Hughes - local hero

Boyle's Daniel Hughes (18) received a Seiko Just In Time Award at the 2013 Irish Water Safety ceremony on Tuesday 19th November in the elegant surroundings of Dublin Castle. Daniel's
award was presented jointly by Fergus O'Dowd  T.D. Department of Communications, Energy and Natural Resources and Water Safety chairman Breda Collins.
• Daniel's citation read: "On 8th July 2013, at the Boyle River, Daniel was swimming when he heard shouts for help. He swam down the river and came upon two teenagers in difficulty in the water. He told them to keep calm, grabbed the girl and pushed the boy towards a rock. He then swam to the river bank with the girl and then went back to the boy and brought him to safety.

Little Shop of Horrors ... WOW!

Let's get some facts for you! Wednesday's opening night full house audience in St. Joseph's Hall was treated to a show that will rank with the finest ever by a group of very highly talented stage and 'behind the scenes' performers. Boyle Musical Society's "Little Shop of Horrors" was a delight from start to finish and featured performances among the best I have ever seen and heard ... not 'amateur', but on a par with shows I have seen on Broadway.
• Jamie Dockery, Elissa O'Dowd, Brendan Reid, Lizi Hannon, Ceara Conlon, Lynda Morgan, Danny Doherty and to the entire cast, a sincere congratulations and 'well done' - I will be back again to enjoy your performances while the show is running. You gave the X-Factor to every moment you were on stage. In particular Elissa and Jamie left me with tears of joy with the show-stopper "Suddenly Seymour".
• Vivienne Moran, Director and Choreographer, picked and cast the roles so superbly that I figured 'he/she' must be like that in real life ... they played their parts so very well.
• Anne Kielty, Musical Director, led an orchestra that complemented and accompanied beautifully and thanks to Liam Feeney, sound engineer, could not have been better.
• Oh yes, there are special effects that will delight - the plant with a unique appetite, the motor bike and the dance numbers will set your feet tapping, but you will see all when you attend this great show at 8pm each night including Sunday.
• To book tickets please call the BMS Ticketline  087 607 6521.

Over one billion Facebook pages exist

Comment:

1. Over one billion Facebook pages exist
2. It surprises me that some of our Boyle traders, clubs and organisations do not have a Facebook Page.
3. Some do, but they do not take full advantage of Facebook by (for a start) posting something every day, so that other pages (like this one) can share their news/offers/bargains etc ...
Like it or loathe it, Facebook is a great place to promote your business/news/events, and you can do so for free ... or pay a little to get an even wider spread !!
