The RHA Gallery in Dublin is host an exhibition of works selected from The Boyle Civic Art Collection by RHA Director, Patrick Murphy from 5th September – 19th December 2014. There is an article in the current issue of Irish Arts Review about the event written by Frances Ruane. The article is also a tribute to Fergus Ahern and the Boyle Arts Festival.

Chris, Dawn and baby O'Porter

Chris O’Dowd and Dawn O’Porter are expecting their first child together. The Boyle actor revealed the news as part of his Ice Bucket Challenge video online. The ‘Moone Boy’ star (34) completed the charity challenge, which has gone viral online in recent weeks, and turned the camera to his wife as he nominated ‘Baby O’Porter’ to get dunked in water next.

Penalty Points

Over 19,000 motorists have been caught using their phone while driving this year. The law now states that drivers caught texting and using mobiles, even a hands-free kit, will face a mandatory court summons and a fine instead of just penalty points.
If a driver is caught texting on their phones they could face a fine of up to €1,000 for a first offence, increasing to €2,000 if it is a second offence, with the possibility of a three month jail sentence.

Overpricing in Supermarkets

Irish Times report: Supervalu and Tesco are just two of the businesses the National Consumer Agency have pulled up over overpricing some stock.

Smartwatch / Phone

Irish Times report: Samsung Electronics has unveiled what it said was the first smartwatch capable of making and receiving calls without a mobile phone nearby. Samsung’s new smartwatch, called the Gear S, features a 2-inch (5 cm) curved display and offers features like WiFi connectivity, pedestrian navigation and a built-in GPS.Samsung said the Gear S will start selling from October. It did not give details on pricing or where it will be available.

No job Losses at Avant Card

AvantCard has assured customers and employees that the closure of MBNA will have no impact on its business in Carrick-on-Shannon. Avantcard. who took over from MBNA in 2012, will not be affected by the proposed closure of MBNA in November.

Childminder needed in Boyle area

A viewer wrote: "I am looking for someone to look after our 2 boys in our home before and after school 3-5 days/week (this may vary from week to week). Schools are within walking distance but would prefer someone with a car. Phone: 086 205 2403"
