Make it Friday night at the movies with two films with local connections.   Bring the family to the enchanting animated film, Song of the Sea, at 5pm, featuring the voice of Carrigallen’s David Rawle; followed at 7pm by Jimmy’s Hall, directed by Ken Loach and filmed in Leitrim. The Culture Night celebrations finish with music in the Cafe Paradiso at 9pm

The Dock
2015 is a special Culture Night for The Dock. This year The Dock are celebrating our 10th anniversary, and will be showcasing our stunning building and talent of all kinds. There will be lots of opportunity to try your hand at making some great art yourself, come along and get making with us.  The special programme includes visual art, music, song, and workshops for all ages. Opening on this night is a major exhibition which celebrates work of artists Aideen Barry, Jonathan Nangle, Mark Garry & Karl Burke.  There will be live traditional music, choir and a CD launch and performance by “Tonic for the Din” a brand new pairing of singer Devon Alexandra and pianist Anna Hardiman. Their original compositions are an eclectic mix with echoes of soul, Joni Mitchell and Nina Simone.  This is a free night for everyone to enjoy and the more the merrier. With events starting at 5pm, we look forward to celebrating with you!

Leitrim Design House
Between 5.30pm and 7pm join The Leitrim Design House in their pop up tent on The Dock plaza and work alongside illustrator Krzysztof Dabek and Artist Stephanie Barnes designing your own paper puppet. Have fun creating and performing your unique story!

St George’s Heritage Centre
Explore the secrets of Carrick on Shannon's past at 11.30am and 6pm from St Georges Church with its original stained glass windows and follow the footprints of a Mother and Child to the Famine Attic Workhouse and Commemoration Graveyard for a talk and viewing of one of the dormitories with time to sit and reflect at the Famine Memorial Garden.  St George's Heritage and Visitor Centre will be open from 10am to 7.30pm where you can also view the film “Leitrim Enduring and Enchanting” showing 400 years of history in Co Leitrim.

The Reading Room @The Dock
At 6.30pm at The Dock, The Reading Room Bookshop presents Carrie Crowley in conversation followed by the screening of the film she wrote, directed and filmed in Leitrim.  

WATERWAY explores the ways in which nature can sometimes hold the simplest of answers to life’s problems. How exposure to her sights and sounds can bring joy into broken lives again.
Set on the canals and lakes of Co. Leitrim WATERWAY highlights the understated beauty of the landscape and shows how its gentle magic might allow peace to come dropping slow. Filmed entirely in Leitrim, the film features Michael Power, Michael Harding, Marie Mullen and Aoife Duffin.
