We started the June Bank Holiday on the right note with Band of Brass who performed a special concert in the elegant Main Salon of King House, Boyle on Thursday, 30th May. As guests of Boyle Arts Festival, this talented ensemble of eight accomplished Mayo musicians presented a lively & eclectic programme of well-known brass standards, light jazz & classical favourites under the direction of Ballina native Jackie Greham, M.D. of Castlebar Concert Band.

Boyle Brownie/Girl Guide Gathering - next Saturday

Saturday 1st June: Family Fun Day, 2-6pm in the Pleasure Grounds
• 2pm leprechaun treasure hunt
• 3-5pm carnival theme games.
• 5-6pm campfire singsong with brownie/girl guide gathering.
The girls are providing a free fun day for everyone with lots of imaginative ideas, so hope to see you all there.

'Boyle Through The Magic Lantern'

Boyle Arts Festival are delighted to present two more screenings of the short film ‘Boyle-Through The Magic Lantern’ this week. Compiled & edited by Brendan McGee, the film showcases rarely seen colour movie footage of life in Boyle in days gone by - including the only known film of the 1977 fire in St. Joseph’s Church. ‘Boyle  - Through The Magic Lantern’ will be shown in the King House auditorium at 7pm on Thursday May 30th and again at 1:15pm on Friday May 31st. Admission €5

As guests of Boyle Arts Festival, this talented ensemble of eight accomplished Mayo musicians will present a lively & eclectic programme of well-known brass standards, light jazz & classical favourites under the direction of Ballina native Jackie Greham, M.D. of Castlebar Concert Band.
The concert will start at 8pm and tickets are €10, which includes a complimentary glass of wine on the night.

Boil Water Notice - no update since 17th May

If you check the Ros Co Co website today, note that 17th May is the latest update regarding the Boil Water Notice first issued on May 13th.
• "Boyle and Boyle/Ardcarne Water Contamination at 17 May 2013. Testing for the species of cryptosporidium identified in the scheme’s source was unable to determine species type. The source will be re-sampled for the presence and type of cryptosporidium. As a precautionary measure, Roscommon County Council therefore advises consumers on the Boyle and Boyle/Ardcarne Water Schemes to continue to boil water before use until further notice."

Boyle Scouts Re-Union

Saturday 1st June: The Railway Bar will host a gathering of former Scouts, Ventures and Leaders from 8.00pm. Music, BBQ and a Camp Fire will be provided. Memories, old photographs. Stories and Songs from various Camps including Rossnowlagh, Ballintrillick, Kanderstag, Kinnity, Lough Keel, Louisburgh, Paris, Cycle Tour of Brittany, Temple House in Ballymote, Achill Island, Larch Hill.
Everyone over 18 is welcome to attend, current and ex-Leaders, past members and ex-committee members. Mini raffle on the night with proceeds going to Boyle Scouts Den Development.

Boyle cyclists for L'Etape du Tour
























Joan Gardner, Aisling Gaughren and Carmel Regan 'all set' for L’Etape du Tour

On Tuesday 2nd July, eight Boyle cyclists will face one of the toughest cycling challenges of their lives when they take part in L’Etape du Tour in Annecy, south west France. As they participate in the 130km competition, Aisling Gaughren, Joan Gardner, Carmel Regan, Enda Madden, Gavin Brennan, Des McLoughlin, Conor Nerney and Brian Nerney will raise funds for 2 worthy charities – Cancer Care West and the Roscommon Parkinson Association.
• The one day event, which is an actual stage of this year’s Tour de France, features 7 major climbs including the 1142m Col des Pres, the 1463m Mont Revard and finishes on the 1655m summit of Annecy Semnoz – with the 130km to be completed within a controlled time limit.

Cancer Awareness

Thursday May 30th: A Marie Keating Foundation Unit will visit the Family Life Centre, Boyle, from 10am for a free information service on issues relating to cancer. All welcome.

Boyle Musical Society: Celebration Concert - Friday next



Friday 31st May: There are only days to go until Boyle Musical Society's 30th Celebration Concert in St. Joseph’s Church, Boyle. The accomplished, award-winning chorus and soloists will come together for what promises to be a truly magical and memorable musical experience. The performance will start at 8:30pm.
• Audiences can look forward to big chorus numbers, solo and duet performances, featuring songs from Les Miserables, Oklahoma, Blood Brothers, Oliver, Chess, West Side Story, Grease, Sister Act, Jesus Christ Superstar, Sound of Music and many more. A spectacular night’s entertainment is guaranteed!
• Tickets €10 and available from the Únabhán Craft Shop in King House, Taylor’s Jewellers, Bridge Street and Magees, Main Street. All seating is unreserved and tickets will also be available at the door on the night of the performance.

• 2-6pm Boyle & District Angling Club: Free Event as part of the Gathering Celebrations and the Return of the Rossies, we are inviting visitors to Lough Key to participate in a pike angling event. Younger potential anglers and their parents are welcome and will be taken on to the lake by our club members, all equipment will be supplied. All you have to do is enjoy and catch fish.
