John Lennon shot and killed

8th December: on this day in 1980, former Beatle, singer, songwriter and humourist John Lennon was shot and killed in New Tork by Mark David Chapman.
•  "A Spaniard in the Works" is a book from 1965 by John Lennon. The book consists of nonsensical stories and drawings similar to the style of his previous book, 1964's "In His Own Write". The name is a pun on the expression "a spanner in the works"
•  Following an early Beatles tour of USA, a reporter asked "How did you find America?" ... John's reply "We turned left at Greenland" :-)

Boyle GAA Club update 8th December

The “Who Wants to be a Thousandaire” show which was hosted by Boyle GAA Clubs (Male and female clubs) on Saturday in St Joseph’s Hall, was an outstanding success. An audience of almost a full house was treated to nine rounds of enthralling quiz competition when each of the nine contestants who were drawn  at random from the audience, fought valiantly to win the magic €1,000. Unfortunately the top prize proved elusive, with some of the contestants getting near the figure, but their eagerness to gamble proved to be their undoing. The contestants who faced quizmaster Ollie Turner were Noel Collins (on behalf of Roscommon GAA Health and Wellbeing Initiative), Brian Furey,Ray Hannon, Brian Supple, Donna O’Connor, Marc O’Connor, Eugene Sheerin, Carmel Beirne and Sarah Keenehan.

"Who wants to be a thousandaire"

PC060064St. Joseph's Hall looked great for the event

St. Joseph’s Hall was the wonderful venue on Saturday night (6th December) for Boyle GAA's "Who wants to be a Thousandaire" fundraiser. Early figures suggest the close on €25,000 was raised thanks to the excellent organising committee who spotted the opportunity and saw it through with dedicaion and a lot of hard work. They were delighted to bring prestigious sponsors on board as well as 135 advertisers. Boyle GAA are very grateful to the sponsors who made the event possible and the very large audience who came along and enjoyed a night with a difference, suspense and fun in our local town hall.
