On this first day of December, Boyle is already getting ready for a great Christmas 2014. Shop windows say "Christmas" and our new street lighting is creating a welcome glow to the town we love so well. I have been taking photos and will continue adding new images daily:
 

Eating Out in Boyle

Clarke's Bar & Restaurant, Open Table, Bruno's, An Craoibhín, Tai Chi Court, Wing Hung, Troy, Margaret's Cafe, Lough Key Visitor Centre, Ardcarne Garden Cafe, Aunty Bee's, Stonehouse and Roma Grill, Mirela's, Five star Italian, and Indian Himalayan.
• Sandwiches, Rolls and hot foods: available all day at locations around town: Abbeytown X-Press, Boyle Motor Works, Carty's Garage Shop, Cooney's Garage Shop, Kelly's Londis, Kelly's Gala, Kelly's SuperValu.

Boyle Brownies and Girl Guides

Saturday 6th 10am-2pm: Boyle Ladybird Brownies and Girl Guides cake sale, bric a brac and homemade crafts sale. The girls will raise funds for guides and brownies as well as the Brothers of Charity 'outreach' services in the Rockingham Arms (formerly the computer shop)
"We will also be carol singing between 12-2pm on the day in various locations throughout the town. please support."

Boyle GAA Update

Boyle GAA Clubs will have two major events next weekend--the Who Wants to be a Thousandaire” show in St Joseph’s Hall on Saturday night at 8pm, and the U21 Division 1 County Semi Final versus Clann na Gael. The U21 Semi Final against Clann na Gael has been fixed for Sunday next 7th at 12.45pm in Knockcroghery.
• Saturday night will see the culmination of several months of planning and hard work with the holding of the "Who Wants to be a Thousandaire"show. A full house is expected in St Joseph’s Hall and tickets must be purchased in advance. Tickets are available in Magees Fashion Shop, Kelly's Gala, The Moylurg Inn and from Mary Clifford at 086 816 4541. Tickets will also be on sale in the Clubroom on this Tuesday from 7pm. There will be 9 chances to win €1,000.  Patrons may opt to participate in the quiz if their ticket is drawn from the drum, or they may nominate a friend who must be in the hall.
• The National Automation Limited U21s now know that their semi final opponents will be Clan na Gael. It is expected that this game will be played on Sunday next--please see fixtures. Boyle GAA Club’s AGM will be held in the Clubroom on Saturday week 13th December at 5pm. All Club members, players and supporters are asked to put this date in their diaries.

Boyle Golf Club Update:

Sunday’s Turkey voucher was won by Ross Andrew 25pts, 2nd Seamus Gallagher 23pts, 3rd Lewis Shaw 22pts. The weekly nine hole was won by Jim Mooney 26pts, 2nd Jonathan Egan 23pts. Competitions for this week are the weekly nine hole from Monday to Saturday and next Sunday is a nine hole stableford. Dates for your diary are the Christmas Bonanza on Sunday December 14th and the Christmas Scramble on Saturday 27th December.
• 
Club AGM next Sunday at 5.00pm in the Clubhouse. A list of nominations to the Management Committee is posted on the club noticeboard.

The recent Ireland's Toughest Muckers competition will feature on IrishTV on Monday 1st Dec at 6.30pm on Channel191 on Roscommon County Matters.

Christmas Markets

• King House: Preparations for the King House Christmas Craft Fair are well under way. The fair will feature a range of beautiful gifts and items on display from over 30 different crafters. The fair takes place on Friday 5th and Saturday 6th of December. Gifts will include hand crafted wooden products, home-made honeys, jams, and cordials, fashion accessories including needlework, scarves, earrings and bracelets. There will also be a range of Christmas items including cakes and wreaths as well as knitted dolls and scarves, ornaments, candles and lots, lots more!!
• Úna Bhán: The Annual Outdoor Night-time Market in the grounds of King House, Boyle starting at 6pm - 10pm. Enjoy the first signs of Christmas cheer and atmosphere with over 20 stalls in the grounds you will be spoiled for choice - Christmas gift ideas, hot food, crafts & clothes, Carol Singing takes at 8pm. Free Mulled Wine in King House.
• Saturday 6th: The Annual Christmas Craft Fair will take place again on Saturday 6th from 10am until 5pm alongside Boyle Farmers Market with plenty of Christmas cheer & atmosphere - Gift ideas, hot food, coral singing, Christmas wreath making demonstration, free mulled wine in King House, lots and lots more.

Santa at Lough Key Forest Park

Santa will make an appearance again this year. I have been delighted to take and publish photos during his previous visits, including his visit in 2011 [here...]

Boyle Musical Society Christmas in St. Joseph's Church

Just days after lowering the curtain on 'Grease', Boyle Musical Society are making plans to perform a selection of Christmas Carols at the evening Mass in St. Joseph's Church on Saturday, December 20th at 7:30pm. I took photos at last year's joyous Christmas events :-
