Boyle GAA Update 28th October

The following were €20 winners at the most recent Club Lotto draw which was held in the Railway Bar: John Healy, Gerry McCormack, Eileen and Gerry Callaghan, Mary Rooney, Timothy Regan and Kate Gilmartin. The house prize was won by Thomas Conroy. There was no jackpot winner and it will be at €7,400 for next Saturday night’s draw which will be held in Clarkes Bar. Team D will be in charge.
It was a quieter than usual weekend on the playing fields, with the National Automation Limited U21s making their Division 1 County Championship debut with a three point win over Michael Glaveys in Castlerea on Saturday. The scoreline was Boyle 3  5, Michael Glaveys  0  11. All but one point of Boyle’s scores were got by Donie Smith. The lads are scheduled to play Roscommon Gaels in the next round of this competition on Saturday next but it may be postponed.
The U14s are expected to play their Garda Cup semi final next weekend--see fixtures. Plans are progressing for the “Who Wants to be a Thousandaire” show which will be held in St Joseph’s Hall on Saturday 6th December. Numerous businesses have committed to advertise. We are especially anxious to ensure that no local firms or businesses miss the opportunity to advertise and those who have not yet been contacted are asked to make contact with any of the Team Leaders Stephen Tonra, Karen Brogan, Martin Dolan, Aidan Lavin, Mary Clifford and Len Sutton. A meeting of Team Leaders and their assistants will be held in the Clubroom on tonight (Tuesday) at 9pm. Thanks is extended to all who assisted in cutting, splitting and filling the trailer load of timber which was the first prize for the recent Club Draw. Special thanks is extended to Michael Furey for providing the timber and the site for the operations and for delivering the timber to the lucky winner Kevin Lavin.
The Club will hold a very special fundraising challenge game on Saturday week 8th Nov at 3pm to mark the retirement from the playing of competitive football by Cian Smith. Cian is the proud holder of an All Ireland medal with Roscommon’s Minors of 2006. Most followers of football will know that Cian has bravely battled health problems for some years and has continued to play despite adversity. He is hanging up his boots in advance of going for surgery in mid November. To mark the occasion there will be a very attractive line up of players in the Abbey Park as a Boyle selection managed by David Casey will take on a selection of well known players from throughout the County, including many of his 2006 All Ireland title winning colleagues and past and present county players. The proceeds from the game will be shared between the Kyle Casey Fund and Mayo Roscommon Hospice and admission will be optional. Further details next week.
