"Oliver" Abbey Community College 2015

"Oliver" - FnaleThis was the finale scene following a superb production of "Oliver"
by 90 students of Abbey Community College.

While thinking about what I might write as my review of the Abbey Community College 2015 production of "Oliver" I was tempted to go 'way over the top' for that was how much I enj oyed everything about the show.
• I was captured straight from the beginning with the quality of the amplification and the 'professional introduction by two students. Then the curtains were drawn and immediate ly I thought "hey, the stage looks great, and this is the work of an excellent set design and set construction crew ... thoughts I held right though the many changes during the show. The overture by a professional orchestra set the capacity audience ready for a night to remember with hints of the show's many familiar songs.
• There were outstanding performances from our youthful actors. I forgot that this was a sc hool show and that I might ever think "great for young amateurs". I doubt if it could have been delivered better by a cast of pros on Broadway. Frank O'Mahoney's direction, Viv Mor an's choreography, Lizi Hannon's accompaniments, the stage management team, costumes and wardrobe personnel came together with a great cast of 90 students to give me a wonderful musical experi ence I will not forget.
• Seriously, with this musical and other  experiences I have had lately my thought is tha t we have a great young generation following on to the mess my generation created!
• Chatting with College Principal Sean Tansey, he asked me to extend hearty thanks to all invo lved with the show; college staff, parents and friends of the College, for without their help and support the show would not have been possible.
• A final comment ... I could have sat happily enjoying "Oliver" by Abbey Community College  for another hour if Lionel Bart had written a longer show!
