We are giving away Cash prices this year of €1000 (1st Prize); €500 (2nd Prize); €250 (3rd Prize); €150(4th Prize); and €100 (5th Prize). Lines are €2 each or 3 for €5. Make Boyle even brighter this year, and thank you for supporting the draw.
Boyle Rail Station
There is no designated 'set down' space at Boyle Rail Station. Yes there is an unmarked, one car sized space in front of the ticket machines. If there are more vehicles dropping off passengers, or waiting for a train they have choices:
1. Use the car park - charge €4
2. Park on the yellow lines and risk clamping
3. Park on Elphin Street or elsewhere
Many may wonder why there are charges to park at Boyle Rail Station, yet there are no charges to park at stations either side of Boyle - Carrick-on-Shannon and Ballymote

Wet and windy weather on the way
Batten down the hatches and dig out the wet gear as wind, rain and flooding will create misery for the entire country this week. Some areas should also prepare for the increased risk of localised flooding ... but it will be milder than normal for the time of year.

Creightons Bar - 30 years in business
Yes, for me it it's hard to believe, but Eddie and Sylvia have been 30 years in business in their Creightons Bar on the corner of Bridge Street and Shop Street. At various time it was the favourite 'haunt' for all of my 5 adult 'children', and I always felt they were in safe company. Congrats, Eddie and Sylvia ... here's to many more years trading in Boyle
• On Friday 6th I was delighted to be in the bar ;celebrating the 30 years with a capacity crowd and a brilliant entertainer from Sligo - Adrian Cullen, who performs as a Dean Martin Tribute.
• Did you know? - Creightons Bar offers all-day service, seven days a week - the only bar in Boyle to do so.

Perhaps you too are engaging with topics that are engaging Tony at the moment;
1. The spiraling cost of Health Insurance (you could add car insurance to that). The logic of pricing thousands of people out of the market for health insurance with the law of diminishing returns obtaining, escapes me.
2. The drink driving case early this week where a young boy was killed by a driver who apparently admitted to drinking nine pints of cider before he went driving.
3. Knife crime in Dublin over the recent week-end.
4. Hotel/food price extortion at the Web Summit.
5. The documentary 'Rugby's Wheelchair Challenge'.
6. The death of Maureen O' Hara.
7. The return of the farming programme 'Ear to the Ground'.
Alongside the above, read Tony's writes on Boyle Musical Society's "Wizard Of Oz", Boyle Community Radio, and a comprehensive Sports Review.

John O'Toole
John O'Toole is pictured here with his dad Miceál, the well know Irish language teacher who holds regular classes in Boyle's Family Life Centre
Recently, John O'Toole received a PhD for research in biomedical engineering that he carried out at Sligo I.T. More specifically he was using acoustic emission to predict and locate fractures in Bone. Acoustic emission is traditionally used for non destructive testing (NDT) of concrete and steel structures. However in recent times researchers from biomedical engineering have been using the technology to study biomedical materials particularly bone.

Community stall available at Farmers Market
Boyle Farmers Market has a "Community Stall" available in our new all-weather Farmers Market. The idea is to have a different community group attend each week to promote, showcase your wares, raise awareness of your organisation or group etc. This is for community only. We would love to hear from any groups interested in getting involved... please contact us here or email Janice on info@unabhan.ie for more details. The stall will be free and you will be a guest of the market for that day. We would love to hear from groups such as the ICA, the Scouts, Tidy Towns and so on. Please share with anyone you know that might be interested.
Taste of Lough Key - Tawnytaskin Centre
Wednesday 4th November: The 'Taste of Lough Key' event started at 8pm in Tawnytaskin Community Centre. When I got there at 8.15pm the Centre was close to Full House for tastings and displays of meats, breads, confectionery, cheese, gift ideas and kitchen ware available from local producers and retail outlets. The excellent Tawnytaskin committee and assistants made free teas/coffee/wine available and of course there were draw tickets on sale for draw prizes that I would love to win.
Once again, Tawnytaskin Community Centre was available for a great event, so heartiest congratulations and well done the organisers and to everyone involved ...

Spectre - James Bond
I was expecting an adventure film full of spectacle and imagination. The opening sequence, though too long, was spectacular and might have been directed by a different team than the rest of the film. The film went downhill quickly with obvious continuity error after error and totally predictable incidents.
Spectre is a mess ... a mix of silly oneliners, boring, long conversations and trite love scenes with a few bombings, shootings, smoke and fires in between. This latest James Bond film has little regard for all the imaginative work for which the series became iconic through the years.
By the time the film ended, I could understood why the (now) puffy-faced, pouting Daniel Craig wants to leave the series.
• Maybe you will disagree with me ... but see the film and make up your own mind.

Organic food: Is it more nutritious?
"Probably not, but the answer isn't yet clear. A recent study examined the past 50 years worth of scientific articles about the nutrient content of organic and conventional foods. The researchers concluded that organically and conventionally produced foodstuffs are not significantly different in their nutrient content."
