Is McDermott's castle falling down?
This photo by 'Dan Shan' on Facebook shows a collapsed section of the perimeter wall of the castle on Castle Island Lough Key. Please note the large crack on the remaining section of wall. This would seem to indicate a further collapse may happen.
• For centuries McDermott's Castle on Castle Island, Lough Key has been an iconic focal point and a major tourist attraction in the area. What a shame it will be on the generation that allows the building to fall and become another one like nearby Kingston Hall and the former Rockingham House!!!

General Election updates
A date will be announced soon for a General Election, 'things are hotting up' and various comments and press releases are being issued. I hope to bring you selected news (shortened statements) and comment as we progress.
Maura Hopkins: I am firmly opposed to any change to Roscommon boundaries. I believe that the Monksland area in the south of the county must be kept as a part of Roscommon. "Monksland has always been a part of Roscommon and there is no reason to sever the links to the area now. I will be communicating my views to the Minister for the Environment and encouraging the retention of Monksland - it is an important part of Roscommon and has an integral part to play in bringing positivity and growth back into the West".
• Will Fianna Fáil add Shane Curran? There is speculation today that former Roscommon goalkeeper Shane Curran is to be added to the ticket for Fianna Fail in the Roscommon Galway constituency. John Mulligan commented on Facebook: "Whatever hope ff has of getting a seat, it's to run with a single candidate. All this will do is to make that hill a lot steeper for Eugene, and god knows, it's steep enough as it is. People are still very wary of letting ff near the till."
• Eddie Conroy Press release: General Election candidate in Roscommon/East Galway Eddie Conroy, has strongly condemned Eir and the Government for the total exclusion of Boyle, Elphin, Roscommon Town, Tulsk and Williamstown from its current plans to provide Fibre to the Home (FTTH) Internet access speeds. Whilst these areas currently have or are in the process of getting upgraded to Fibre to the Cabinet (FTTC), these areas are to be completely overlooked for the greater 1 Gb Internet speeds until at least sometime after 2020 under Eir’s current FTTH rollout plans.
Flooding evacuations
Irish Independent Report: 46 County Roscommon families have been evacuated from their homes because of flooding since the 3rd of December. 8 families have now returned
