At this time of year a gradual lockdown comes about. Here's one of the first:
Lough Key Visitor Center Opening & Closing Times.
Wednesday to Sunday 10am to 6pm.
Lakeside CafĂ©: Wednesday to Sunday 10am to 5.30pm. (food finishes at 5 pm) "We will open outside these times for pre-booked groups. For further information please call 071 967 3122"

Boyle GAA Update

The following were the €20 winners in our most recent Club Lotto draw which was held in the Moylurg Inn;- Tommy Vesey, Stephen Langan, Deirdre Purcell, Darren O’Connor, Louise Brady and Gillian Cleary. The house prize was won by Vincent Flanagan. The jackpot wasn’t won and it will reach the substantial figure of €7,000 for Saturday night’s draw which will be held in Dodd’s Bar.

Welcome Fr. John Coughlan

Fr. John Coughlan introduced himself to parishioners at masses in St. Joseph's Church over the weekend. Fr. John thanked Fr. Gerry for his warm welcome and said he looks forward to meeting parishioners over the days ahead and happy days serving the needs of Boyle parish for the years ahead.
On separate notes it is reported that Fr. Gerry's housekeeper is to retire soon and that organist Patricia Hopkins is to retire at the end of the year.

"Grease" rehearsals begin tonight

Monday September 1st: Rehearsals for Grease will begin in St. Joseph’s Hall, Boyle at 8pm and a warm welcome is extended to all new, former and existing members to join up for twelve weeks of music, singing, drama, dancing and comedy. [more...]

Over aged 85 numbers to double

A report by Social Justice Ireland forecasts that in just over a decade, the number of people in Ireland aged over 85 will have doubled - meaning greater demand for healthcare facilities and services. Social Justice Ireland is urging the Government to develop longer-term strategies to deal with long-term unemployment and the impact of people living much longer.

Frank Kelly, the actor who played a constantly inebriated priest in Father Ted says people do not need to be drunk to enjoy a drink. September is Irish Heart Month and Frank Kelly spoke to remind the public that "the heart can't drink like you can".

Care Club Outing

Carrick Care Club, sponsored by Waterways Ireland. The club held their third annual day out in Lough Key Forest Park on Saturday 30th August. Approximately 100 of our disabled / intellectually challenged enjoyed boat trips, a barbeque, fun games and music on a sunny afternoon in this beautiful location.
