What it says in the papers

Six stories you should know about this morning ... cronyism debacle, Irish Water is "at a trickle", soldiers are sleeping in their cars, Apple's tax scheme in Ireland, Dhara Kivelehan "medical misadventure", engineer in cardiac arrest after bite from widow spider.

Water Charges

Today, October 1st, marks the start of the new billing system for water. Homeowners will not get their first bill until January, and after that that'll arrive into homes on a quarterly basis.
Boyle residents are subject to boil water notices and won't have to pay for their drinking water supply while stillaffected by notices, but will still have to pay for waste water services.

Alongside photographs, articles are being collected in memory of this greatly loved Boyle man, and will feature in the book. Christy's wife Mary and family have most of the content ready at the moment. The book will be on sale through the region in early December. If you have special memories of Christy, whether two-liners or up to two pages long, please send them for inclusion to Mary Regan, Green Street, arriving with her no later than November 8th.

Cyber Spacers

In his Roscommon Herald column this week, John Mulligan addresses the topic of Cyber Bullying, a fairly new phenomenon where people use online forums (Facebook) to make vicious attacks on others. "Adults are often both perpetrators and victims and the former can be more devious in the production of their brand of bile. Gardai now take this brand of abuse seriously and will investigate the source of nasty communications."
