Stars in the making
Boyle Parochial School and St Joseph’s Boys National School pupils from St Joseph’s Boys displayed their considerable talents as part of the Graduation Ceremony in St. Joseph’s School on Wednesday 24th June. With sponsorship and inspiration from Irish Water as well as filming and production by Irish TV they acted in two excellent short films “Rainfall” and “James Pond”.
Speakers included those from each school's management, Irish Water, Roscommon Co Council and Irish TV.
• DVD's of the films will be for sale shortly. Get one for yourself and note the possibilities that our local schools offer our young students outside of the school curriculum.
• Yes, I took loads of photos and will have a selection for you in the next day or two ... "no rush" as they say "whoever made time made plenty of it" !!

Through his years as a marathon road runner, John Joe approached his sport from a scientific point of view. Way ahead of modern running shoe technology, John Joe advised runners: "Roads have a camber, so running on the right hand side of the road, you should put an insole or packing in your right shoe so that both feet are on the same level". I understand modern road running shoes compensate for road camber!
I regarded the gallant John Joe Nerney not only as a hero and role model, but as a friend, a helping hand and a mentor who encouraged and advised and encouraged me as well as a legion of locals through his lifetime. May he Rest In Peace.
