Local Election Result, Grad Mass letter from a viewer, Vintage cars in Boyle

Fundraising Cycle tomorrow

Caroline Brennan wrote: "We have arranged to route a Group of 8 Charity fund raising cyclists through Boyle town this Tuesday pm 27th May, time to be confirmed but around 6 to 7pm. They are cycling from Mizen to Malin Head for CONSOLE (suicide awareness and support), PHAB Omagh and a Scottish Cancer Care Charity. They are a combined group undertaking the Mizen to Malin Head challenge to support each other on the route in raising much needed funds for their various charities. They have a support crew of 2. We recently had a fundraiser here in Dodd's, the Crescent Boyle(Quiz night) to support the CONSOLE side of this in memory of Ciara Pugsley. Her Dad, Jonathan is on the cycle. We raised just over 700 euro which was absolutely brilliant. Website link for donations is as follows: http://www.mycharity.ie/event/jonathan_pugsleys_event

Graduation Mass - a viewer wrote

"After paint balls were thrown at the Boyle Abbey Community College façade, the powers that be in the college decided to cancel the Annual Students’ End of Year Mass. However, due to the determination of one young man the mass was re-scheduled and went ahead in Ballinafad Church outside Boyle. Unfortunately it was difficult to alert over 90 students to the new arrangements and some students may have missed out.
Fr. Alan Conway held a fitting service and the students sang and played beautifully. At the end of mass the same 'determined student' had a packed church in stitches with his quick wit and anecdotes of the last five years. The Mayfly Inn came to the rescue in providing a venue for refreshments for all the parents and students and the proprietors deserve a huge thank you for their hospitality.
So, well done to our young people and maybe in the future the College authorities should let the appropriate authorities -The Gardai- deal with those responsible for the vandalism and show support for their students at the most stressful time of their young lives!
Yours sincerely, A proud parent"

Vintage Cars in Boyle yesterday

This beauty had pride of place in front the King House steps.

Approximately 180 vintage cars and their 'carers' from Breffni Vintage Boyle were in Boyle from 12.15pm to 3pm. They parked up around King House for a break, bringing over 300 people to Boyle for the afternoon. Our great Scouts served everyone with refreshments ... Well done to all involved. The rain stayed away and the visit was educational and quite spectacular. View my set of photos [here...]
