Well, thank god it's over ...

I mean the election is over, done and dusted and now we can settle down to hoping for good health and a good summer while those elected go underground (oops!!). Yes, underground, while many of those we voted into office will form their internal alliances, collect their expenses for the next five years and generally play political games while the status quo is observed. True, history repeats itself, so why should things change now?!
It is interesting to note that the old plea for 'more women in politics' gets a big kick up the rear here in the Boyle Municipal Area. Three of our six new Cllrs are women, so c'mon ladies, let's see what you can do...
I have great respect for our elected representatives, but have no respect for their 'invisibility' and the political games they play frequently. Maybe the "Ming influence" will show all our reps that standing up for your area and those who elected you is a worthy pursuit

Cracking the Whip

If I were a cartoonist I would draw an image of Ros Co Co cracking a six-pronged whip at our six new Boyle Area Cllrs ... because therein will lie a truth!

For those of you who have not yet experienced Roscommon County Youth Orchestra, you’ll have an opportunity to see them on Saturday, 31st May in Boyle Church of Ireland, Green Street where they will be performing at 3pm. This concert is free of charge and is a great opportunity for anyone interested in music to come and see the enormous amount of musical talent we have in the county.
This concert will be the orchestra’s most extensive programme to date and includes Fairytale from Shrek, Habernera from Carmen, Theme from Mission Impossible, James Bond and many more classics from the stage and screen. The orchestra will be joined by Gerry Lacey (brass), Cathal Roche (woodwind) and Natalia Gorovenco (strings) who are the youth orchestra’s tutors and conductors.
RCYO is Roscommon’s youth orchestra development project which has been in operation since 2007. With over 50 members between the ages of 10 and 18, RCYO provides classical instrumental tuition to young people from all over the county. In 2013, RCYO performed at the National Concert Hall and to great acclaim.
There are currenty three centres in operation; woodwind in Boyle, strings in Roscommon and brass in Ballaghaderreen. Every week, members take lessons in their local centre and also take part in an ensemble session. Once a month, the sections come together to rehearse as a full orchestra. Members have access to instruments on loan and free of charge and fees are heavily subsidised to ensure that membership is affordable to all young people in the county.
RCYO is a project of Roscommon County Council, Roscommon VEC and the Arts Council of Ireland with the support of The Phoenix, Ballaghaderreen. RCYO acknowledges the support of The Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, The Arts Council and Music Network through the Music Capital Scheme 2011.
