It’s wonderful to wake on a Sunday morning and know; the ache in your stomach is from laughing too much, the blisters on your feet are from dancing too much, and the hoarseness in your throat is from singing too much!
I think this sums up the experience had by all at last Saturday’s fundraiser 80’s Disco in Daly’s Storehouse.
It’s having the pleasure in organising an event like this that makes you realise how wonderful the community of Boyle is.
The Daly family who bring the Storehouse alive with rubix cubes, glass baubles hanging from the ceiling, silhouettes on the wall, a bubbling pot belly stove in the corner, helium balloons, glow sticks and candle lit tables. The maestro that is DJ Dermot Leydon with disco lights from Parkers, his original Rainbow Disco sign made by Sean O’Dowd in the 70’s, and amplifiers, speakers, turntables and anything else needed curtesy of DJ’s Ritchie Burke, Joe Conroy and Keith Conroy – “just let us know what you need, no problem”. Marquees from the ever obliging Boyle and District Angling Club and Michael Sweeney to protect us from the July weather, extra bar furniture from David O’Connor, and Liam McNamara and Francie Walsh our bouncers for the night.
The disco was a huge success, better than last year which we didn’t think was possible. It’s such a feel good factor to see so many people dressed up – in reality if some of the costumes worn on Saturday night were worn in the 80’s the wearer would probably have been locked up!
The atmosphere was electric, it was fun, good spirited, happy, it was a tonic. Congratulations to Robert Palmer (aka Gus Regan) and his Addicted to Love pale faced, black eyed, red lipsticked ladies who won the overall prize on the night.
However, there were lots of winners…everyone who came along, got down, bogeyed and enjoyed the night was a winner. A great night, huge support gratefully acknowledged by the Horse and Summer Show committee.
Next thing on the list to organise?? Oh yes, the Boyle Horse and Summer Show, 23rd August 2015…
See you there.
