Ciara - Sydney's Rose of Tralee - the Boyle connection

Ciara Rafferty

Joan wrote: Hi Sean, just a note to say the Sydney Rose of Tralee is Ciara Rafferty - Pat and Annie Flanagan’s granddaughter from Rockingham. She is my daughter and knows Boyle well having visited there numerous times to visit Dad (mum died when she was very young). At any rate, more can be found out about her on the Sydney Rose of Tralee and International Rose of Tralee website. What I would tell you would be very subjective! Roscommon unfortunately do not have a representative this year in Tralee this year - I am sure she would be happy to carry the banner for the County as well. The Roses visit Lough Key (John and myself have taken part in the triathlon the past three years) in August.

Information about Boyle Bridge

Boyle River & Bridge

Local historian Frank Geelan has supplied information about the history of the bridge.
In 1763, Sir Edward King had a statue of King William erected on the bridge of the time, possible a wooden structure. This statue was moved to a site on top of a stone plinth in what was know as the Town Park, and now named the Pleasure Grounds. The statue was moved before the rebuilding of Boyle Bridge in 1834.
