Boyle GAA update Monday 3rd November 2014

Our U14s went down to a physically stronger Kilmore/ Shannon Gaels combination in the Garda Cup semi final in miserable weather conditions in Kilmore on Saturday. This brings an end to this panel’s playing activity for 2014. Thanks to all the lads and the management for their efforts throughout the year. The Garda Cup Final will be hosted in the Abbey Park on Saturday 15th November. More details next week.
The National Automation Limited U21s will play Padraig Pearses on Sunday next in the Abbey Park at 1pm in their second outing in the U21 Division 1 Championship. They will be in action again in the next round of this competition on Sunday week against Roscommon Gaels.

As part of the Roscommon GAA  Football Development Plan there will be end of season regional competitions at U17 and U15 levels comprising of teams picked from clusters of clubs. Boyle will be grouped with neighbours St. Michaels and St. Ronans. The objective is to give the best players from the grouped clubs an opportunity to play Division 1 football at 15 a side, thus developing their skills and experience. These competitions will be played during the coming six weeks. More details to follow.

There will be an important meeting of the Senior Club on this Tuesday evening at 8pm sharp to discuss an number of important matters, including the submission of motions for the upcoming Northern Board and County Board Conventions, and to make arrangements for the “Who Wants to be a Thousandaire” launch and the event itself. This will be followed at 9pm by the weekly meeting of “Thousandaire” leaders and helpers. The press launch of the “Who Wants to be a Thousandaire”” will be held in the Clubroom on Wednesday evening at 8pm, when the 9 Major Sponsors which the clubs have procured, will be unveiled. Pallas Promotions Limited, who will do the show on our behalf on 6th December, will be present to outline how the show works and they will do a round or two of the show for demonstration purposes. All members and players from the Boyle GAA Clubs-adult male and Minor and Ladies Club are urged to come along. The general public are cordially invited as are businesses who would be interested in becoming advertisers on the night of the event.

There will be a very special charity game in the Abbey Park on Saturday at 3pm to pay tribute to Cian Smith who is retiring prematurely from playing due to health reasons. Cian has given exceptional service to the Club as a player from under 8 to the present day. He holds county title medals in almost every age category and his most treasured possession is his All Ireland medal which he won with Roscommon Minors in 2006. A Boyle selection managed by David Casye will take on a selection managed by Fergal O’Donnell which will comprise mostly of Cian’s Roscommon colleagues of 2006 as well as other well known players. The proceeds from the game will go towards the Mayo-Roscommon Hospice and the Kyle Casey Fund. Kyle is son of former Roscommon and Ballinameen player Sean Casey, who is receiving medical treatment at present. Admission is optional and it is hoped that there will be a large turnout.

Boyle had the unique distinction of providing three playing members to the DCU team which played in the Third Level Colleges Division 1 League last week when Donal and Enda Smith and Tadhg Lowe lined out for the Dublin college. The Club extends its sympathy to the Lavin and Kelly families Grevisk on the sad passing of Enda Lavin and also to Club Treasurer Mary Smith and to the Finn family on the death of their uncle in Dublin.
