Terry Greenan R.I.P.

My old friend Terry Greenan, New York (brother of John Greenan, Boyle) has died. We sat together in the same class and sometimes in the same seat in Deerpark National School. I met with Terry on a trip to New York some years ago and am saddened to hear he has passed on. May his gentle soul reat in peace!

Rockingham House Fire remembered

Rockingham House Fire

King House wrote on Facebook: "Today (10th September) we mark the 58th anniversary of the Rockingham fire. The inferno gutted the mansion which was built in the early 1800s and effectively severed the King family's 354-year link with the Boyle area. The shell was demolished in 1971."
• Rockingham House was designed by famed architect John Nash in the early eighteen hundreds for the English landlord John King. It was remarkable due to its dome front and 365 windows. Rockingham House was destroyed by fire in 1957, after which it was taken over by the Irish Land Commission. Declared as unsafe in 1970, it was demolished a year later and in its place, the Moylurg Tower was built.
